How to Care for Stone Bathroom Tubs

Stone bathroom bathtubs come in wide varieties of styles and materials, there are different characteristics within each type of stone. Granite is hard and more durable, marble tends to be soft and porous. Onyx is very similar to marble, and can be cared for using the same methods, while travertine requires the most frequent care.

Daily Maintenance
Water drops can stain the tub, so don’t forget to wipe down your stone bathtub with a soft cloth after every use. Avoid pouring any colored liquids down your bathroom stone tub, such as fruit juice or red wine.

Cleaning
Never use abrasive or acid-based cleansers on your stone tub as they can scratch, etch or stain the bathtub. Mild cleaners work well on most stone, but granite requires special stone cleansers, follow the stain removal instructions exactly.

Protecting

Some stone require sealing to ensure they are properly sealed, such as limestone, travertine and sandstone. In a general way, stones with an open grain need to be resealed more often, say once half a year, this can be done by using appropriate wax. Close-grained stone can be sealed once per year with stone sealer.
